The Law ‘On Guarantees of Protection of Deposits in Banks’ (No. ZRU-1031 dated 18.02.2025) was adopted.

In accordance with the law, the objects of guaranteeing are not only deposits of individuals, but also including individual entrepreneurs and legal entities, held in banks in the national currency of the Republic of Uzbekistan and foreign currency.

According to the law, the upper limit of the guaranteed deposit amount is set at 200,000,000 soums per depositor in one bank. If a depositor has several deposits in one bank, regardless of the size and currency of the deposits, the total amount of compensation payable on these deposits shall not exceed the amount of 200,000,000,000,000 soums. The remaining amount of depositors shall be covered from the assets of the bank.

In accordance with Article 26 of the Law:

  - The full amount of the balance of the object of guarantee, if its size is 200,000,000,000 soums or less;

  - 200,000,000 soums if the balance of the object of guarantee exceeds 200,000,000 soums;

Another advantage of this law is the gradual reduction of the term for the start of deposit repayment upon the occurrence of a guaranteed event to 7 working days. Previously, the repayment period was 2 months and 23 days.

According to the new law:

In 2025 - 20 working days,

From 1 January 2026 - 15 working days,

From 1 January 2027 - 7 working days.

Uzbekistan's new deposit guarantee rules provide depositors with clear protection mechanisms and are in line with international best practices. Rational management of deposits, their diversification, selection of reliable banks and control of financial indicators contribute to the preservation and multiplication of savings.
